Chocó, Colombia
In 2014, NatureRe Capital launched its first restoration project in El Chocó, Colombia, one of the most biodiverse and rain-soaked regions on Earth. The goal was simple yet ambitious: to let nature do what it does best. By applying Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR), we wanted to see how fast degraded land could return to forest when given the chance. Ten years later, the results speak for themselves.
The upper picture shows a part of the acquired area in 2014, before we started with the process of Assisted Natural Regeneration. The bottom picture shows the same area seven years later, in April 2021. You can clearly see the progress made and the impact of Assisted Natural Regeneration on the present ecosystem. In only 7 years, trees have been growing and the land has been flourishing.
With such clear evidence, we realized we needed to scale this project and restore much more land.
